Way open for new entrance to Linwood Park

Two houses will be removed soon at the southern boundary of Linwood Park so work can start on providing a new entrance and cycleway.

Other changes will include enhancing the drain that runs near the boundary and landscaping alongside the drain. A cycleway from Hargood Street to Aldwins Road will be completed.

The southwest corner of the park was isolated when two houses were standing but, with their purchase and removal by the City Council, the area can now be opened up.

The proposal includes improvements to the drain, which takes storm water from light industrial and residential land.

It is lined with precast, 1.5m deep concrete and, in places, the height is increased with retaining walls.

Residents have expressed concern about the drain’s height and the lack of access for those who enter the waterway.

The purchase of houses at 120 and 122 Aldwins Road will allow the Council to reduce the height of the walls.

The Parks Unit says the appearance, safety, and quality of the drain will be improved under the scheme and it will also provide good pedestrian and cycle access.

Work at the corner of the park could start before Christmas, the parkland area formed by February, and plantings made next winter.
