Daffodils are often associated with Hagley Park in Christchurch.

But now Hagley-Ferrymead Community Board wants a piece of the daffodil action.

On the suggestion of Community Board member Linda Rutland, and supported by the rest of the board, thousands of bulbs were planted in the grassed median strip in Linwood Avenue between Smith and Tilford Streets earlier this year.

They came up in the spring for the first time and board chairman Bob Todd hopes that more funds will be available for more bulbs to be planted next year to extend the display to Hargood Street.

"Someone wrote to ‘The Press’ about them and people have come into the service centre and mentioned the daffodils," he says.
