Solstice celebration

Supporters of Strickland Street Community Garden celebrated the winter solstice at the garden.

They supped on hot soup, planted garlic and bagged up compost.

They also used the occasion to practise for a concert, which was given at St Mary’s, Church Square, on 1 July as part of a mid- winter celebration.

Various groups were involved and as well as the concert, there was a hangi and a minifair.

Christine Blance, a garden spokeswoman, says that in summer supporters hope to mount other entertainment at the garden.
