In a nutshell...

Art Wanted
The Centre of Contemporary Art (CoCA) and community gifts fundraising committee for the new Christchurch art gallery are seeking 19th and early 20th century works of art by recognised New Zealand artists.

They are also after contemporary works from artists and collectors, for a charity auction in September (Peter Webb will be the auctioneer). Funds raised will contribute to the new gallery and to the permanent establishment of a children's art gallery at CoCA.

Contact CoCA on 366 7261 and coca@xtra.co.nz by 31 July.

Honoured
Deputy Mayor Lesley Keast and City Councillor David Close were honoured in the Queen's Birthday honours list.

Lesley Keast received a Queen's Service Medal for public service and David Close the Queen's Service Order for public service.

Mayor Garry Moore and other Councillors congratulated their colleagues at the June Council meeting.

1000 Native Trees
The public is being invited to help plant 1000 native trees in Bexley Wetlands on Saturday 29 July to celebrate Conservation Week (31 July-6 August).

Bexley Wetlands Trust has organised the planting, with assistance from Trees for Canterbury, who is supplying the trees, and the Council Parks Unit.

The planting is in conjunction with The Warehouse, which issued a challenge to its credit card holders to donate bonus points to the project. Meet in the new carpark on Wairoa Street at 11am.

Contact the Council's Coast Care office on 382 1678.
