Fresh targeting of visitors

Fresh Targeting of visitors Locals can earn themselves free meals at top Christchurch restaurants by becoming ambassadors for Canterbury.

Details of the Christchurch and Canterbury Marketing promotion are in City Council rate demands to households this month.

The offer, which closes on 30 August, involves taking at least two people from outside Canterbury to a participating restaurant.

"We're encouraging locals to 'do their bit' for the visitor industry, which is worth 1.332 billion dollars a year to Canterbury and employs 25,000 people, says CCM communications marketing manager John McKenzie.

Formed just over a year ago, CCM is responsible for promoting a wide area, including the districts of Kaikoura, Hurunui, Waimakariri, Selwyn, Banks Peninsula, Ashburton, Timaru, Mackenzie and Waimate. It has the largest regional marketing team of any of the regional tourism organisations in New Zealand.

On 31 July CCM moved from the corner of Worcester Boulevard and Oxford Terrace to the old Chief Post Office building in Cathedral Square. They are expecting about half a million people through the doors of their Visitor Centre this year.
