A voice for youth Reducing boredom is one of the aims of the newly-formed South Christchurch Youth Forum. Supported by Spreydon-Heathcote Community Board, and a number of local youth organisations, the forum currently has nine members from various schools in the area. Forum members will advocate for 13 to 18 year olds in the Spreydon-Heathcote area, organise activities, and support things that are already happening for young people. At the two meetings they have had to date at Beckenham Service Centre, they have discussed helping create more entertainment in South Christchurch, such as concerts or a week-long youth festival similar to KidsFest. They would also like to set up a website and e-mail link for others to visit and give their views, and to share information - about education and health services, for example. The next meeting is planned for 22 August. The exercise involved working together, using the senses available to each individual, to get a balloon, blow it up and pop it. |
