DOG DAYS

Woolston's Radley Park is going to the dogs. A section of the park will be converted into a canine agility course, with obstacles and challenges for retrievers, ridgebacks, spaniels, setters, pekes, poodles and pooches of every kind.

Sponsored by pet product distributors Masterpet and built by Christchurch City Council, the course — scheduled to open in February — will include A-frame jumps, tunnels, a walk ramp and a slalom section. Mark Vincent, of the Council's Animal Control Unit, says the course will suit all types of dogs — and their owners.

Steering you

The Council's new self-drive guide explores the beautiful Avon River; its colourful history, imposing buildings and tranquil resting places.

The guide contains a map of the City, highlighting the Avon and 18 landmarks and points of interest along the way. There are individual photos of the landmarks and information about each.

It is the third guide produced by the Environmental Policy and Planning Unit and is aimed at making Christchurch more accessible to residents and visitors. The first two are the Port Hills Drive and Garden Drive. They are all available free of charge from council offices.

Another guide worth following is the Christchurch Central City Walks one. Produced by the Council's promotions team, it features a map and excellent walks. On the flip side is a guide to shopping and having fun in the City.

City Scene is Christchurch City Council's official residents' newsletter. It is produced by:
  • Manager: Sam Fisher
  • Editor: Deborah Thomason
  • Photographer: Neil Macbeth
  • Print and Distribution: Christchurch Star Ltd
