Residential Building Consents, Christchurch City, Year to June 2001


This report presents a summary of residential building consent numbers within the Christchurch City Council area for the year to 30 June 2001.

The total numbers of residential consents were lower this year than last year with 1,187 building consents issued for dwellings and units 1. Dwelling numbers were only slightly lower than last year, whereas unit numbers dropped significantly.

This year the data were mapped by meshblock 2, giving a far more detailed picture of development than previously, which has been mapped by area unit (suburb).

1 Unit development signifies two or more units built on either a new site, a redeveloped site or a section with an existing house (i.e. infill or cross-lease).

2 An area defined by Statistics New Zealand, with a median population of 100 people, usually approximating a city street block in built up areas.
