$50,000+ pa saving through Waste Reduction for Tait Electronics

Through the Target Zero waste minimisation programme Tait Electronics Ltd is saving more than $50,000 per annum by minimising solder paste waste in its circuit board assembly process. Most of the savings have come from changed staff practices resulting in the reduction of raw material waste, and involved little capital expenditure.

Tait Electronics Ltd has participated in Target Zero - a national two-year sponsored waste minimisation programme involving 12 companies in Christchurch. The Ministry for the Environment has sponsored half the programme with the balance of the funding coming from the Christchurch City Council, the then Electricity Corporation of New Zealand and the participating companies themselves.

The programme provides the opportunity for companies to work and learn together to minimise waste resulting in a better environment and a better financial bottom line.

To ensure the momentum of this programme is maintained the Christchurch City Council has established the Target Zero Business Network which organises information forums, training and organises experts to advise the network businesses. The network is open to all Christchurch businesses.

Invitation - to hear more about the achievements made at Tait Electronics Ltd through efficient resource use and waste minimisation you are invited by the Target Zero Business Network to join them on site, at Tait Electronics Ltd, 175 Roydvale Avenue on Thursday 9 September at 4pm.

A site tour of the factories will be included in the programme as will Leiner Davis Gelatin (NZ) Ltd's experience in waste reduction and what the Target Zero Business Network can offer business.

Please see invitation which follows and RSVP to Christine Byrch if you would like to attend (the event has attracted over 120 people and has a waiting list).
