Christchurch City Council Media Release 21 September 1999

Students To Help Trade Mission

Three Christchurch students, in the American City of Seattle on an exchange visit, will join a 14-strong Canterbury business and education delegation, which has just arrived there.

Year 13 students Suzanne Marsh of Cashmere High School, Jennie Mullan of Villa Maria College, and Zoe Clayton of Avonside Girls’ High School are in Seattle, a sister city with Christchurch, for three weeks.

They are staying with families whose children have visited Christchurch under sister-city arrangements.

The Christchurch City Council’s Christchurch-Seattle Sister City Committee gave each a contribution towards their costs. They will attend a university preparatory college, give talks to groups in Seattle, and help the trade delegation.

Applications were sought from all Christchurch high schools for places on the exchange programme.

A Christchurch student visited Seattle last year under the programme and one from Seattle visited here in July this year.

The sister city committee plans student exchanges as an annual event.
