Storytelling Time For All Ages
Stories for children and their grandparents will be held to celebrate this year as the International Year of Older Persons at the Canterbury Public Library.
Throughout October, libraries around Christchurch will hold storytelling sessions to highlight the importance of older people in children's lives.
"We are delighted to have many older storytellers from the community," says Sasha Bowers, the library's Promotions and Publications Co-ordinator. "We also have entertaining tales which span the generations and celebrate the relationship between young and old."
Highlights of the programme include children's author Elsie Locke who will share her favourite stories at the Central Library on Friday October 15 and 29 at 11am.
At Fendalton Library there will be stories for older children and adults with Margaret Copeland on Wednesday 13 October at 7pm, as well as a special storytelling workshop for grandparents on Friday October 29 at 11am.
New Brighton Library will have stories for older people with well-known author Pauline O'Regan on Tuesday 12 October at 10am, and with students from Chisnallwood Intermediate School on Friday 29 October.
Other libraries around Christchurch will hold story-time sessions for younger children who are encouraged to bring their grandparents along.
Full details are available at all libraries in the Canterbury Public Library network.
