The Christchurch City Council is linked to a website through which some of the hungry of the world are being fed.
It is not costing a cent for computer users and it is done by one hit of a computer button.
On the Internet is a United Nations sponsored site (
www.thehungersite.com) which, when visited, provides enough food for one hungry person somewhere in the world for one day. The site says that someone dies of hunger somewhere in the world every 3.6 seconds and a click on the site means that free food is donated.Corporate sponsors, who advertise on the site, pay for the food.
The City Council has made the facility available on its website (
www.ccc.govt.nz) to be able to play a part in helping the poor and the starving.Soon the facility will also be available on the Mayors website (www.christchurchmayor.org.nz).
Only one click a day is allowed on the site.
