Christchurch City Council Media Release

3 September 1999

Council announces youthful addition to line up for ‘In the Park 2000’.

The Christchurch City Council announces that local music sensation, Zed, will join the millennium celebrations in Hagley Park on New Year’s Eve.

Zed are currently one of Christchurch’s most popular bands with two recent top 20 hits. The band’s addition to ‘In The Park 2000’ follows requests from teenagers wanting entertainment specifically for their age group.

During the planning of ‘In the Park 2000’, a large, central city New Year’s Eve event was to have been staged by private interests to cater for the youth sector of the community. In contrast, ‘In the Park 2000’ was designed to have a family focus and cater for a wider audience.

The youth gathering has not eventuated and Zed’s inclusion in the city’s millennium celebration will greatly enhance the already exciting line up of entertainment that caters for all age groups. Comedian Mark Wright will take the audience from start to finish, culminating in the grand finale performance by one of New Zealand’s most popular musical sons, Dave Dobbyn.

Executive Producer and Director of ‘In the Park 2000’, phone (03) 941 8842

or Katie Macbeth, Publicity Co-ordinator, phone (03) 941 8495.
