TV2 KidsFest under way

The city’s annual winter school holiday festival, TV2 KidsFest, is well underway.

The festival, which began on 3 July, runs until 16 July with fun, games and activities for children up to 12 years of age.

The full list of events is available in the colourful TV2 KidsFest brochure. Copies of the brochure are still available from Christchurch City Libraries and City Council service centres. Information about the festival can also be found on the website www.kidsfest.co.nz or by calling 941 6840 during office hours.

There are still lots of exciting events to come, some of which are listed below.

The Ticklish Allsorts 11-13 July
The Ticklish Allsorts return from Australia with their special brand of humour, music and song and dance. Their interactive style incorporates strong visuals and fantasy characters such as Radish The Pantomime Horse, who was a huge hit with local audiences two years ago.

Ticklish Allsorts is taking its unique performance around local communities between 11 and 13 July.

Creative Bugs
Creative Bugs is a school art project which has seen kids transform natural recycled plant waste (eg: leaves, twigs, nuts etc) into fantastic insect creatures! The colourful and crazy creations are on show during the festival at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens Conservatory.

The Press Kidsbuskers
Talented local performers under the age of 12 are performing in city mall locations from 5 – 9 uly and on the same days, The PressAirtime will tour local community parks. The Press Airtime is a celebration and experience of everything to do with air. Children will have the chance to make their own kites, play with bubbles, have a go at balloon sculpture, and enjoy bouncy castle rides.

Idolised 04
Meet the New Zealand Idol stars in person. The stars of the Idolised Tour: Michael, Camillia, Luke, Eddie, Sela, Dave and of course, Ben Lummis, will make a TV2 Kidsfest exclusive personal appearance for an hour in Victoria Square on Wednesday 14 July at 1.30pm.

The Press Kids’ Aren’t Square 16 July
A free music and dance concert to celebrate the end of the festival, joined by pavement art – a great opportunity for children to bring colour to the inner city in mid-winter.

Following the concert will be a special performance by the Ronald McDonald™ Fun and Magic Show.

One lucky person will win the trip to Auckland for themselves and their family. Every ticket purchased through Ticketek goes into the draw and the winner will be announced at this event.

  • The Christchurch City Council produces TV2 KidsFest, with the support of The Community Trust in association with The Press and Rick Armstrong Motors.
