South Library's sustainable features on show at Our City

Sustainability, a strong theme which emerged from public consultation about the new South Library, Service Centre and Learning Centre, is to be the key focus of an upcoming exhibition at Our City O-Tautahi.

The exhibition will showcase the many sustainable design features which have been incorporated into the South Library building design by architect’s Warren and Mahoney, and will include architect’s views, a virtual walkthrough which takes viewers through the building interior, samples of materials used in the interior design, and a regularly updated photo montage showing building progress.

The South Library building, due to be completed mid-year, incorporates building materials with recycled content, low water-use plumbing fittings, use of solar energy, and makes maximum use of natural light. Many other sustainable aspects of the building reflect Christchurch City Council’s commitment to sustainability.

Also highlighted in the exhibition will be the multiple uses of the building, including the South Island’s first café within a public library building, a learning centre, and Christchurch City Council Learning Centre.

  • The exhibition, at Our City O-Tautahi, in the former Municipal Chambers on the corner of Worcester Boulevard and Oxford Terrace, will be open from the first week of March, from 10am to 4pm.
