Council Xmas/New Year services, hours


Statutory holidays are 25-26 December and 1-2 January (Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and 2 Jan).

Walk-in services

  • Civic offices – Normal hours, except for statutory holidays
  • Service Centres – Beckenham, Riccarton, Sockburn, Linwood, Fendalton, Papanui, Shirley; Closed on Christmas Day, reopen Mon, 5 Jan.
  • Riccarton, Fendalton, Papanui and Shirley change of hours for 2004 – From Mon, 5 Jan, hours are 9am-5pm Mon-Fri, 10am-1pm Sat at Papanui and Shirley.
  • For all urgent calls, 24 hours everyday day, ph 941 8999.

Refuse and recycling collection

  • Christmas Day and New Year’s Day collections will be done on the following Saturdays (27 Dec and 3 Jan). All other collection days unchanged.
  • Remember to have your crate/bag out by 7:30am.
  • Refuse Stations will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Recreational facilities and libraries

  • Libraries – All libraries closed on statutory holidays. Normal hours resume Mon, 5 Jan. Check your local library’s hours on-line at http://library.christchurch.org.nz or phone 941 7923 (not on statutory days).
  • Pools – QEII, Pioneer/Centennial leisure centres, Waltham, Halswell, and Sockburn pools and Jellie Park Aqualand- Closed Christmas Day only.
  • Our City O-Tautahi and the Provincial Council buildings closed on statutory holidays.
  • Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu – Closed Christmas Day only.
