Thorrington's new bus

A new Walking School Bus network has been set up around Thorrington School to ensure a safe, healthy and sustainable journey for its children. With a walking bus, parents take turns to pick up children from their homes and walk them to and from school each day.

Six other city schools have walking school buses. The Thorrington scheme covers six routes, with a parent on each looking after the roster of “driver” parents. Joy Kingsbury-Aitken, the Council’s Schools Coordinator, says the idea has many benefits. “It’s healthy, safe and provides an exercise opportunity for parents and children,” she says. It also saves parents time because they work a roster system.”
