The Halswell Quarry Park, a Council millennium project, covers 55ha at the old quarry site at Halswell. About 20ha of the area contain the six Sister Cities Gardens, which each include plants native to their regions. People will be at each Sister City Garden to talk about current and future projects in that particular garden.

You’re invited to come as early as you like, and make a day of it. The entertainment will begin around 1.30pm in the site of the actual quarry with a 30-minute performance by the local men’s barbershop chorus, the Canterbury Plainsmen. This will be followed by a Civil Defence high angle rescue team giving a display down the face of the quarry and will conclude with another 30 minutes of singing.

The park has picnic facilities, interesting walks, wonderful views and ample car parking. Come along, have a picnic, enjoy the music and view the Garden City’s latest treasure. Council Rangers and Friends of Halswell Quarry Park people will be on hand to answer questions.
