Work under way on Fendalton Rd

People travelling along Fendalton Road will have noticed some changes over the last two months. Work is now well under way on significant improvements to the road.

Landscape clearing and pruning has been carried out from the railway to Clyde Road. An upgrade of street lighting and underground services is also being done along this length of road.

A turning bay outside Mona Vale has been installed and a new bus bay constructed between Stratford St and Jacksons Rd on the city bound side.Work is being done on a new median island, between the railway and Straven Rd, and on the construction of footpaths and a road carriageway on the south side of this section of road.

The road works involve changing Fendalton Road between the railway and Clyde Road from two lanes to four. The new road will include the landscaped median, cycle lanes, and visitor parking among the existing trees where possible. The project also includes providing off-street parking to serve the needs of visitors to St Barnabas Church.

The improvements to Fendalton Road have been 40 years in the planning. The City Council received the go ahead from the Environment Court in May this year for the changes. Works Infrastructure is doing the work.

  • More information about the work is available at the City Council’s Fendalton Service Centre (Corner of Jeffreys and Clyde roads) and on the internet at www.ccc.govt.nz/FendaltonRoad/
