Port leadership

The board of Christchurch City Holdings (CCHL), the Council company which holds the city’s shares in several large companies, says it is pleased the situation regarding the leadership of the Lyttelton Port Company (LPC) has been resolved.

Dr Paddy Austin, chair of CCHL, says new LPC chairman Barney Sundstrum has a good track record of leadership in organisations faced with the issues that have been a concern at the port.

“He’s told me he is keen to resolve the industrial situation at the port as soon as possible,” Dr Austin says. “We see his appointment as a catalyst for resolution of the issues currently facing the Port Company in its relationships with its workers, its customers and its community. Our goal at CCHL is to see flexible labour practices and a competitive port once more. The Port Company knows this is our goal and we will now leave them to get on with it.”
