Libraries also honoured

The Council’s Christchurch City Libraries has won a number of recent awards. Last month it won the New Zealand Institute of Architects’ Resene Colour Award for the refurbishment of its Central City Library in Gloucester Street. The project architect was Scott Koopman, of Architecture Warren and Mahoney.

The citation says colour is used successfully to define spaces and help make navigation easy.

The Libraries Contact Centre won the Technology Category of the 2002 New Zealand Post Management Excellence Awards and has been shortlisted for the 3M Award for Innovation, the winner of which will be announced this month.

City Libraries launched its centralised phone, fax and email service for customer service and information in June last year. It is open for 79 hours a week and in its first year handled more than 132,000 calls. “If you’ve got the questions, chances are we’ve got the answers,” says City Libraries Manager Sue Sutherland.

  • You can contact the Library from 8am to 9pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday. Phone 941 7923, fax 941 7848 or email library@ccc.govt.nz The website address is www.library.christchurch.org.nz
