Volunteers' work honoured

Seven Spreydon-Heathcote residents have received Community Service Awards for significant voluntary service.

They are Rhonda Te Wheoro, Jean Potter, Wendy Russell, Sandy Davis, David McVicar, Naida Murray, and Charles Potter.

Mr and Mrs Potter served the Addington community, including assisting the community constable’s office, for many years.

Mr Davis is an entertainer in rest homes, hospitals and with other community groups.

Mrs Murray has been involved with the Huntsbury Community Centre since it started in 1970, and Mr McVicar has been with the Christchurch South Community Watch for six years, patrolling the Sydenham police district.

Ms Russell has been a co-ordinator of a Colombo Street Baptist Church playgroup for more than 10 years.

Ms Te Wheoro has made a big contribution to the community, particularly to the Maori community.
