UpDate 96, the state of the environment monitoring report for Christchurch City prepared by the Christchurch City Council.

Social Well Being

Key Point

  • The Christchurch City Council’s social monitoring programme is aimed at monitoring poverty, hardship and community well being within Christchurch. It will provide data that will enable the Council to assess the impact of central and local government polices on Christchurch residents and look at the implications of policy changes with regard to residents and agencies.

In future Christchurch City Update reports, this section will focus on the social circumstances of Christchurch residents. It is anticipated that information incorporated in this section will be both quantitative and qualitative in nature. It will include results from the 1996 Census of Population and Dwellings and selected findings from the City Council’s Social Monitoring Programme.

The following section provides an overview of Council’s Social Monitoring including its aims, methods of research and its intended outcomes.
