Liquefaction is where saturated soils lose their strength when shaken. Environment Canterbury has finished a liquefaction study for the City of Christchurch. This study is one in a series that is being undertaken for all Territorial Authorities within its district. A report [686 KB] has been prepared to identify the potential susceptibility of Christchurch soils to the possibility of liquefaction occurring as the result of a strong earthquake.
