City Centre retailers 'cleaning up'

It's a real team effort behind the Christchurch City Council's latest environmental programme. Waste Management, City Centre Marketing and 'Keep Christchurch Beautiful' along with an environmental consultant are working with City Centre businesses on a 'Clean Retail' programme.

The programme, modelled on the successful 'Clean Retail' pilot run by Waitakere City Council in Henderson Mall, West Auckland, runs from May until August. Participating businesses attend free workshops to learn how to make savings by reducing waste, improve environmental performance and market their 'green image'. There will be free, ongoing support to implement these skills and practices

City Centre Marketing will help businesses promote the programme and will set up publicity for them. At the end of the programme case studies describing the costs, benefits and experiences of participating businesses will be distributed widely as examples for other Christchurch businesses to follow. It is hoped that this will be the first of several programmes.

If you would like to know more about the programme please call Christine Byrch (371-1856) or Candida Keithley (371-1251).
