COMMUNITY BOARD HERITAGE AWARDS

The Hagley/Ferrymead Community Board has established an awards scheme that recognises the efforts of community initiatives aimed at preserving the particular built or constructed character and heritage of the Hagley/Ferrymead area.

Initiated by board chairperson Councillor Anna Crighton, the Hagley/Ferrymead Heritage Awards Scheme is hoped to foster a greater awareness of the heritage significance of the built or constructed environment of the area.

One award per year will be made from each of the four proposed categories: Conservation and Restoration; Education and Awareness; Children (aimed at raising heritage awareness among young people and encouraging them to be proactive within their local environment); and Retention (recognising the retention of a building previously under threat of demolition but now secured for the future by either a private or community initiative). The awards will be allocated according to responses from a survey of residentsŐ groups.

Details of the awards scheme will be published city-wide through the media and presentations are proposed to take place during Heritage Week in May this year.
