Get fit at Grant Armstrong Park

26 September 2008

You will soon be able to get fit for free in the fresh air on new cardio and weight equipment in Grant Armstrong Park, Bishopdale.

The fitness trail equipment is being installed by the Christchurch City Council at three stations around the park.

  • Station 1 includes cardio equipment consisting of a cross trainer, cycle seat and a rowing machine.
  • Station 2 has more cardio machines including an ezy rider and a stepper
  • Station 3 has weight equipment including an ab-hip swinger, shoulder press and a butterfly press

The installation is funded by the Council’s Capital Programme and follows similar machines being placed in Wycola Park in Manurere Street, Hei Hei, last month.

The equipment will help people increase their health and well being, says Council Capital Development Project Leader, Steven Gray. It can be used by people of all ages, with resistance being produced according to the weight of the individual.

“This is a great opportunity to encourage people to become more active and using the city’s parks.”

The fitness machines will be available for use after an official opening on Tuesday, 14th October at 10.30am. Isleworth School pupils and a local walking group are expected to attend.
