Christchurch City Council to work with Party Bus Association on protocol
4 September 2008
The Christchurch City Council and the Party Bus Association have agreed to work together on a protocol on appropriate licensing requirements for the buses.
The Council has also agreed to not object to the issuing of special licences to party bus operators until the protocol is agreed to, or a full court hearing is held on the issue.
Two party bus operators today sought an injunction to force the Council to issue party bus operators with special licences.
The court approved the negotiated agreement, in place of an injunction, which will remain in place until a substantive hearing is necessary.
Chris Gilbert, the Christchurch City Council Legal Services Manager, says the agreement will give the parties a chance to work on a joint protocol for the licensing of party buses. The Police will also be invited to take part in developing the protocol.
