Public consultation on traffic and parking bylaw
31 October 2008
Public consultation on the Christchurch City Council’s proposed Traffic and Parking Amendment Bylaw 2009 will open on Monday, 3 November.
The Christchurch City Council’s Regulatory and Planning Committee has revised the schedules listing one way streets and bus/cycle lanes and these will be adjusted under the proposed amendment bylaw.
The draft bylaw and the consultation process was approved at this week’s Council meeting.
Committee chair Cr Sue Wells said the committee was correcting errors that were in the old schedules of the current bylaw. The errors were discovered during the bylaw review process earlier this year.
The Traffic and Parking Bylaw 2008 came into force on 1 July 2008. At the time of adoption it was acknowledged that the two schedules of the bylaw included errors that needed to be checked and corrected. Some one way streets and bus/cycle lanes have been added because they currently exist (and had been omitted) and/or have previously been consulted on by the Council.
“This is a tidy up only. People will not see any difference to their streets except where a consultation has already occurred. We are not introducing “new” streets to the schedules,” Cr Wells said.
Consultation will close on 4 December, with hearings in mid-December if possible, and the final bylaw expected to come into effect on 1 April 2009.
