A Taste of Cup and Show Week

Festive celebrations in Christchurch Central City brings a taste of Canterbury’s biggest event of the year.

 

Central City Chic, a free outdoor party in the High Street Stewart Plaza next Friday 7 November, will sample the fun, fashion and excitement of New Zealand Cup and Show Week.

 

The festive week will kick off officially from 12pm as Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker officially launches the week long events.

 

A combination of racing, fashion, boot parties, free giveaways, competitions, live entertainment and hands-on fun, will make this opening day a great celebration to get the week rolling.

 

Central City Chic will experience some of the fashion, entertainment and agricultural events that make up the country’s largest spring festival. 

 

Preview your racing fashions and bring your most fabulous hat down and enter the Hat Competition to win fantastic prizes.

 

Check out what others will be wearing to the races this year with the latest retailer fashions and trends on parade with samples by Jane Daniels; Sergios; Gregory; Annah Stretton; and Andrea Moore.

 

Events Development Manager Jo Blair, says New Zealand Cup and Show Week has come a long way over the years. 

 

“It's one of the most exciting times of the year for New Zealanders and is making its mark on the Australasian event calendar which we’re very excited about,” she said.

 

The Royal NZ Show and International Rodeo will bring country to town, with a small petting zoo, sheep shearing and wood chopping demonstrations.

 

Sample the animals up close and personal and experience the power of a racing sulky. 

 

All three of the prestigious racing cups from Riccarton Park, Addington Raceway and the Royal NZ Show will be there in the flesh, available to see up close and sense the excitement that racing is about.

 

Local Kiwi band The Eastern will preview live music from Southern Amp, with an acoustic local sound filling the city centre.

 

The Stewart Plaza will be packed full of excitement, so come and experience what New Zealand Cup and Show Week is all about!
