Council news delivered to city homes
24 October 2008
The Christchurch City Council is about to launch a news and information publication that will be delivered directly to Christchurch homes.
The new publication will be funded from within existing communications and marketing budgets.
The Council has always delivered news and information to Christchurch people, either through letterbox drops or advertising in local media publications. Staff have reviewed our existing external publications to find a way to reach more residents and ratepayers within the same budget.
The result is a reduction in advertising space taken in local newspapers and the launch of a new, 16-page publication – Our Christchurch – that will be delivered to city and peninsula homes every three months from 31 October.
Our Christchurch will contain information on major Council projects, details on how residents can contact their Council, Councillors and Community Board members, information about community activities, Council consultations that residents can be involved in, and events and festivals on around the city.
Council Communications Manager Diane Keenan says the involvement of residents in Council decisions and processes is crucial to the success of the City. To make that happen, the Council aims to ensure residents are informed about what’s going on and have the opportunity to say what they think.
“We know how important it is to residents to find out what’s going on in the city,” she says. “We work hard to ensure we’re talking to Christchurch people about city projects, events and processes and we hope this quarterly publication will help keep residents informed about everything they need to know about their city.”
