City Mall pavers for Christchurch community groups
7 October 2008
Old pavers from City Mall are being reused by around a dozen Christchurch community groups.
Groups from across the city will tomorrow morning (Wednesday, 8 October) collect their pavers, gathered in pallets of around 400. A small charge to the community groups will cover the cost of recovering the pavers from the mall.
Project City Mall Director Sean Whitaker says it is great to be able to recycle some of the old pavers from the mall.
“We’ve had strong interest from community groups who want to use the pavers for various projects around the city. It’s great to see them being put to good use,” he says.
Around 10,000 square metres of paving is being replaced as part of the revitalisation of City Mall, which aims to create a vibrant new public space in the Central City. As well as replacing the paving, the project includes new street furniture, more public art and more trees and plants.
