Ferry Road sewer pipe renewal

6 November 2008

Work to renew the sewer pipe along Ferry Road will begin on Monday 10 November 2008, says Christchurch City Council Project Manager Prawindra Mukhia.

The work will be done on the southern side of Ferry Road, between Osborne and Grafton Streets.

Most of the work will be undertaken between 7pm and 6am on Sunday to Thursday nights (finishing at 6am on Friday mornings), to minimise disruption to motorists and nearby businesses.

“This stretch of Ferry Road will remain open but the speed limit will be reduced to 30kph, 24 hours a day, and drivers should expect short delays” Mr Mukhia says.

Access to businesses on this section of Ferry Road will remain open throughout the work, and existing off-street parking will be available.

Mr Mukhia says replacement of the old, 124m pipe is urgently required.

The roadside will be trenched and a new section of pipe installed.

It is expected the work will be finished by mid December 2008.

Cyclists can continue to use this section of Ferry Road, although care is recommended.

Mr Mukhia says while every effort will be made to adhere to the planned working hours and maintain access, the urgency of the project means changes will be made if necessary.
