Hagley/Ferrymead awards swimmer scholarships

The Hagley/Ferrymead Community Board will tonight (Wednesday, 28 May) award four young athletes scholarships to advance their competitive swimming careers.

Jacob Barry and Denis Milkin will each received $1000 and Brittany Tucker and Tobey Pauling $500 to help support their training efforts.

Funding for the scholarships is from funds entrusted to the Community Board from the former Woolston Park Amateur Swimming Club to assist talented and potential swimmers living in Hagley/Ferrymead area.

All the swimmers are committed to excelling in their sport at national, international and Olympic levels and have demonstrated both talent and commitment to achieve their goals.

Former Olympic breaststroke swimmer Anthony Beks will assist with the presentation of the awards tomorrow night at 5.30pm in the Linwood Service Centre Boardroom.
