Win World Wrestling Entertainment tickets with libraries quiz

21 May 2008

World Wrestling Entertainment stars and libraries may not appear to be a natural fit, but the two groups have more in common than you might think. Both are committed to helping young people get into the reading habit, and improve their literacy.

In theUnited States and the United Kingdom the WWE has a long history of involvement in promoting literacy programmes. The World Wrestling Entertainment’s Smackdown ECW Live Tour will be performing at the Westpac Centre in Christchurch on June 12 for one show, and the Christchurch City Libraries saw this as a great opportunity to promote libraries.

After an approach from the Christchurch City Libraries the WWE has generously donated ten tickets to their upcoming show. All you have to do is complete the WWE quiz on the Pulse website http://thepulse.org.nz/, and you will go in the draw to win one of the five sets of double tickets (one adult, one child) up for grabs. The quiz comprises of multi-choice questions about the WWE stars and competition, and your entry needs to be in by June 5.

If you don’t have access to the internet at home, the Pulse website can be accessed for free from the library computers. In addition to the quiz, the Pulse website also has lots of interesting information on anything and everything affecting young people, from music and movies to relationships and school.

Childrens’ Librarian, Jane Dyer, a WWE fan, says using the lure of WWE tickets is a great opportunity to connect with young wrestling fans who may not realise how much the libraries have to offer.

“The libraries, of course, have a wonderful range of books for all interests, but there is also a great selection of magazines and DVDs, and free access to the internet and video games. We hope young wrestling fans will come along to the draw and to check out our selection of wrestling magazines and biographies, and realise the library actually has all sorts of things to interest them.”

The prize draw will be at the New Brighton Library at 2.30pm on June 7, and you need to be there to claim your prize. In addition to the five top prizes there will also be spot prizes given away on the day.
