2007 Christchurch Civic Awards to be Presented

12 March 2008

A cluster of community-minded individuals and organisations are to receive framed certificates and boxed medallions from Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker, at next week's Civic Awards ceremony.

The awards recognise twenty two people and organisations from a wide cross-section of the community, whose actions have helped make Christchurch a better place to live.

This year’s recipients cover everything from services to wheelchair rugby, support given to the children and family of prisoners, to services, to the elderly and disadvantaged.

Civic Awards are presented annually by the Council in recognition of substantial service, usually of a voluntary nature that benefits the city of Christchurch and its people. This service can be in a number of areas including recreation, youth activities, social welfare, educational services, cultural, religious and community affairs.

Nominations were called for in August 2007 and went through a judging process. Recommendations on the nominations were then made to a full Council meeting. The process of calling nominations through to the Mayoral function is usually completed within the year of the awards. However due to the local government elections last year, the ceremony had to be postponed and will now take place on Monday 17 March 2008.

Media Invitation

The media is invited to the function at 6pm on Monday, 17 March in the Limes Room, Town Hall.
