1080 protest at Hagley Park

21 June 2008

Alleged 1080 poison pellets have been dumped by protestors in part of Hagley Park.

The pellets have been found this morning along a path in the area of Hagley Park near Harper Ave.

Council staff have erected signs at entrances to the Park, warning people to keep their dogs on a leash and away from the pellets.

Along with the pellets protestors have written signs along the pathways warning of 1080 poison.

Council staff have checked the park and believe there are no other affected areas, and have cleaned up the area near Harper Ave.

The pellets are tan coloured, cylindrical in shape and about 5cm long. Anyone who comes across the pellets is asked not to touch them and to contact the Botanic Gardens information centre on 941 7590.

After a similar incident in the Botanic Gardens in May the pellets were tested and found to be a non-toxic
