TV2 KidsFest Highlight This Weekend

10 July 2008

Dog owners throughout Christchurch , Waimakariri and Selwyn are gearing up for one of the most popular events on the TV2 KidsFest calendar.

Dog’s Day Out will take place on Sunday, 13 July at the RDA Equestrian Centre at the A and P Showgrounds from 11am until 3pm.

Christchurch City Council events business coordinator Paul Kean said this was an opportunity for dog lovers to show off their best friend with everything canine celebrated, from purebred pooches to mongrel mutts.

“Hosted by radio personality and musician Nick Tansley, Dog’s Day Out also showcases dog obedience and working dogs, such as guide dogs,” Mr Kean said.

It costs just a gold coin to register a dog, with all proceeds going to the RSPCA.

Mr Kean said tickets were also selling fast for the Singapore Airlines StarFest Finals, which this year incorporates the inaugural APRA Children’s Song of the Year Award and the What Now Children’s Video of the Year Award.

The finals were the culmination of the StarFest heats which have been held this week, and will take place at the James Hay Theatre on Friday, 18 July from 7-9pm.

“I’ve been particularly impressed by the high standard at the heats this year,” Mr Kean said.

“The finals will be very entertaining, and tough for the judges.”

New Zealand children’s music group The Funky Monkeys will perform and What Now stars are among the presenters, with the overall winners picking up a family holiday to Singapore with Singapore Airlines.

It is free for children to attend the finals and $5 for adults, with tickets available by phoning Ticketek on 03 377 8899 and quoting the booking number CB8522.
