Life's a blast at beach event
7 January 2008
Beach Blast is happening again – the first event being this Saturday, 12 January, at the North Beach Surf Club and the second next Saturday, 19 January, at the South Brighton Surf Club. Both events will run from 9:30am to 1pm.
A free community event, Beach Blast aims to provide a variety of beach activities – surfing, boogie boarding, beach flags, sprints and volleyball – for children aged seven to 12 years. Beach Blasters can meet the best local surfers and learn from surf life savers how to master the surf this summer.
There is heaps to do and a lot of fun to be had. Bring a picnic lunch or enjoy the free Heller’s sausage sizzle. Activities for younger children and the whole family include face painting, bouncy castles and a sandcastle building competition.
The event is organised by the Christchurch City Council’s Recreation and Sports Unit and funded by the Burwood/Pegasus Community Board. Event partners are North Wai Boardriders, North Beach and South Brighton Surf Life Saving Clubs, Canterbury Surf Life Saving, Youth Alive Trust, Canterbury Volleyball, Cancer Society, SISCO’s Surf School & Surf Shop and Heller’s Tasty.
