Festival to celebrate cultural diversity

Dance to the beat of a different drum and celebrate the colourful cultural diversity of Christchurch at this year’s Culture Galore festival.

A free event of music, dance, ethnic food and arts and crafts from more than 50 different cultures, Culture Galore is on Saturday, 15 March, at Ray Blank Park, Maidstone Road, from noon to 4pm.

Performances include Egyptian belly dancers to traditional songs and dances from Nepal, China, India, Korea, Philippines, Ireland, Israel and Fiji.

There will also be a huge range of have-a-go activities, such as stone carving, flax weaving and soap carving, and workshops to learn Tai Chi, Latin Dancing, Folk Dancing and to play a wooden xylophone.

Children will have the opportunity to scale the climbing tower, test their batting skills on the baseball pitching machine and try out the portable ice skating rink.

Culture Galore is part of Council’s SummerTimes programme and supported by the Fendalton-Waimairi and Riccarton-Wigram Community Boards.
