Discover the adventure and fun of orienteering
8 February 2008
Go down to the woods on Sunday, February 24, and experience the challenge and fun of orienteering from 10am to 2pm.
The annual Bottle Lake Forest Park Orienteering Day is a chance to navigate – on foot or mountain bike – your way through the forest, discovering the adventure and excitement of orienteering. Orienteering, often described as "cunning running", is a sport the whole family can enjoy.
The Bottle Lake Forest Park Orienteering Day is a Christchurch City Council initiative, supported by the Burwood/Pegasus Community Board, Peninsula and Plains Orienteering, Bike Biz Palms, Classic Hits 97.7FM and Canterbury Mountain Biking Club.
The event is held in partnership with the Peninsula and Plains Orienteering Club, members of which plan the courses through the forest and assist budding orienteers on the day. Members of Canterbury Mountain Bike Club will also be on site to provide practical tips for mountain bikers. Groups will run in staggered starts from 10am to noon – equipped with a map – seeking to navigate the course in the quickest time. Enter as a group or as an individual, courses are designed to accommodate beginners through to experts.
After your adventure, stay, have a family picnic and let the kids enjoy the free face painting, giant games, free Hellers sausage sizzle and spot prizes including a child’s mountain bike.
