Halswell Quarry Park
19 December 2008
The Christchurch City Council has started a new process to achieve a revised Halswell Quarry Park management plan and in the process address sister city garden issues.
In March 2009 the Council will consider a report reviewing the existing management plan. It has appointed a Halswell Quarry Special Committee to hear submissions on the revised plan in May 2009, make a decision on those submissions and to approve a new management plan for the park.
The special committee will consist of Mayor Bob Parker, and other councillors who neither sit on sister city committees nor represent the Riccarton/Wigram Ward (Councillors Withers, Reid, Button, Sherriff, Williams and Wells).
A report on the proposed Korean and Chinese gardens at the Halswell Quarry Park was to have been discussed by councillors at today’s Council meeting. However, the sister city garden issue will now be considered in the context of the revised management plan for the park.
The earlier subcommittee that had been established to consider the two garden proposals has now been disestablished.
