Free events at Christchurch libraries to celebrate NZ Book Month
28 August 2008
More than 30 events will be held at libraries throughout Christchurch during September to celebrate New Zealand Book Month.
The events, most of which are free, include story times for preschoolers, authors reading their own books, and professional storytellers, says Christchurch City Libraries Programmes and Learning Manager Pat Street.
Classes on writing blogs and your autobiography will also be held, along with how to travel, write and get paid for it, and personal development seminars.
The annual nationwide initiative aims to encourage people to read more, particularly New Zealand books.
“It’s about celebrating and showcasing our many very talented writers, supporting new ones, and showing people that, no matter what they like reading, there’s a New Zealand book they’ll enjoy,” says Ms Street.
The Christchurch libraries website, www.christchurchcitylibraries.com, contains a lot of information about New Zealand authors, including interviews with children’s writers, short stories by well known authors, and a forum on which readers can share their reviews.
