Severe weather affects roads on Banks Peninsula and Port Hills

The snow storm which is affecting Christchurch has closed a number of roads, particularly on the Port Hills and Banks Peninsula. 

Affected roads -

Dyers Pass Road from Cashmere Road to Governors Bay – closed

Christchurch Summit Road from Gebbies Pass to Evans Pass – closed  

Evans Pass/Sumner Road from Sumner to Lyttelton - open but extreme care is needed due to ice and grit.

The roads in the Lyttelton Inner Harbour from Lyttelton through to Purau, and a number of minor hill and rural roads in the area  - open but affected by slips and fallen debris.

The road from Purau to Port Levy Road - closed

Akaroa Summit Road from Hilltop to Pigeon Bay - closed.

Akaroa Summit Road from Pigeon Bay to Little Akaloa - open but affected by ice and grit.

Akaroa Summit Road from Little Akaloa to Okains Bay - closed

Okains Bay Road from Duvauchelle to Okains Bay - closed

Western Valley Road from Little River to Port Levy - closed

Akaroa Summit Road from Okains Bay to Le Bons Bay  - closed

Le Bons Bay Road - open to 4WD with chains.

Akaroa Summit Road from Le Bons Bay to Long Bay Road / Cabstand - open to 4WD with chains.

Long Bay Road from Takamatua to Goughs Road - open to 4WD with chains.

Minor hill and rural roads in the Akaroa Inner Harbour  -  open but affected by slips and fallen debris.

Northern and Eastern Bay minor hill and rural roads  - open to 4WD with chains.

Kinloch Road / Bossu Road - open to 4WD with chains.

Southern Bays Roads from Magnet Bay to Lands End Road - open to 4WD with chains.

Minor rural roads from Little River to Gebbies Pass - open.

 

Okains Bay Road between Duvauchelle and Summit Road will be closed to all through traffic due to a large slip. There is a detour available via Long Bay Road or Pidgeon Bay Road.

Camp Bay Road will be closed to all through traffic from Tuesday 20th Aug Due to storm damage construction work.

Motorists are advised to beware of construction workers and machinery ice gritting and clearing slips, and are advised to take extreme care on the roads.
