Fire restrictions from 1 October

27 September 2007

Fire restrictions will come into force in the Chaneys and Bottle Lake Rural Fire Districts from Monday, 1 October. The period from 1 October to 28 February inclusive is a restricted fire season and it becomes an offence to light or cause a fire without a permit in the affected areas. The fire ban applies to owners and occupiers of land in the fire districts as well as the general public. Permission to light fires may be granted, if weather conditions allow, upon application to the City Environment Group, Civic Offices, 163 Tuam Street. Applicants must advise the extent of the area of burning, the date or dates on which the burning will take place and the precautionary measures being taken. Two days should be allowed for the application to be processed and the area inspected. The approximate boundaries of the Chaneys and Bottle Lake Rural Fire Districts are: the Waimakariri River to the north; the sea coast to the east; Beach Road to the south; and the railway line and Marshland Road to the west.
