Council says sorry
30 March 2007
Christchurch City Council wants to apologise to 90 children who it sent letters to demanding repayment of unpaid library fines.
The Council today sent letters to nearly 200 residents with long term debts to the city’s libraries for unpaid fines or books not returned.
“Unfortunately some of the letters went to children through a processing error. Children who receive these letters should screw them up and ignore the request for payment. We apologise for any distress it may have caused,” says Corporate Services Manager Chris Kerr.
He says letters will be in the post tonight to the children apologising for the error.
