Starfest registrations extended

8 June 2007

The semi-final Starfest concert on Thursday 12 July is going to be bigger and better than originally envisaged.

Parents and children yet to register for the Christchurch StarFest competition now have even longer to organise their group and prepare their performance before the competition begins. Rather than face a series of small heats, the most promising Christchurch entries will be selected to go straight to the semi-final show.

“That gives entrants the whole month of June to register and perfect their act to become Canterbury’s brightest star!” says Council events coordinator Sheena Baines.

Heats in the Waimakariri and Selwyn Districts will be going ahead as planned, the finalists of which will join the city contingent at the semi-finals.

“The response from the Waimakariri and Selwyn Districts has been huge. However Christchurch families have asked for more time register their group and practise their StarFest act,”

Ms Baines says the Council has listened to this request, and in response has decided to extend the registration period and give the Christchurch contingent until Tuesday 5 July.

“The Council wants to give as many people as possible the chance to get involved,” Ms Baines says.

The TV2 KisFest Bus and Cool Stuff will be circulating Christchurch malls as planned, taking registrations and giving away 5000 free tickets to the semi-final and final Starfest show.

The 12 best acts from the semi-finals will go through to the final concert being held at the Christchurch Town Hall on Friday 13 July, where the major prize is a trip for two adults and two children to Singapore.

The Starfest talent competition is just one of the many fantastic TV2 KidsFest events happening in Christchurch from 30 June to Friday 13 July Registration packs are available from local primary schools, Council libraries and service centres, or online at www.kidsfest.co.nz.
