Lyttelton Harbour Water Restrictions
12 December 2007
Lyttelton Harbour residents are being urged to refrain from watering their gardens for the next 24 hours.
Maintenance on the water tank that feeds the pumping systems to the Lyttelton Harbour communities, combined with today’s high temperatures, have lowered Lyttelton Harbour’s available water reserves to very low levels.
The Council’s Operations and Maintenance Manager, Mike Bourke, says that by not watering gardens for the next 24 hours, more serious water restrictions can be avoided.
“Watering gardens and irrigation account for around 60 per cent of the water used this time of year so refraining from these activities will make a huge difference.
“While the water tank which supplies Lyttelton Harbour communities is back in service, it will take time for it to return its normal level. Being careful with how water is used over the next 24 hours will speed up this process,” Mr Bourke says.
