Draft Events Strategy released for public comment
22 September 2006
The City Council draft Events Strategy, which aims to grow more visitor-based attractions while continuing to offer exciting events for local people, is out for public submissions on the Council www.ccc.govt.nz website.
Mayor Garry Moore says the city has many events that we all enjoy but it also needs events that attract outside visitor numbers like the Lions vs All Blacks match.
The Draft Events Strategy maps out how the Council can help enhance the vibrancy and diversity of our events by:
-
Investing more Council funding into events that attract more visitors to Christchurch as well as residents;
-
Providing clearer whole-of-Council processes for the funding and support of events organisers;
-
Being more responsive to short-notice event opportunities, and
-
Developing opportunities and events that help change the misconceptions of Christchurch held by North Islanders.
“We enjoy one of the most enviable lifestyles in New Zealand and the world with a recreational playground that sits on our doorstep. The direction we want to take will let us promote the Garden City alongside youthful, active, energetic activities that we’ve kept a secret for far too long,” Mr Moore says.
