Council’s new shop-front Council service centre to open in Lyttelton
21 September 2006
Christchurch City Council’s new service centre in Lyttelton, at 33 London Street, will be open for business on Monday (25 September).
The new centre is in leased premises next to the library and will house about 12 staff.
Council acting customer services manager Julie Blyth says as well as the counter and display areas, the new centre has offices upstairs and meeting space.
Lyttelton-based staff have been working from offices in the Lyttelton Port of Christchurch building on Norwich Quay and, with the lease there about to expire, there was an opportunity to consider other locations.
“Being alongside the library on the main street and having a ground-floor customer area will make it more useful to the community,” Ms Blyth says. “Apart from the change of location, the change should be seamless. We close in the old offices at midday tomorrow (Friday) and open at 33 London Street at 8.30am on Monday.”
Lyttelton/Mt Herbert Community Board chair Claudia Reid thinks the change is great. “It’s fantastic having it there in the main street among the hubbub of local life,” she says.
